There is a whole arsenal of tools out there to help you procrastinate. A couple of my favorites are Google Reader, Chess.com and Google News. For others Facebook and Twitter are the real time killers.
The thing is, these sites aren’t the problem. It’s you, and it’s tough to admit but it’s true. There’s a million ways that you can kill all of your distractions right now. You can use a browser app like StayFocusd for Chrome, or you can install something like RescueTime on your computer to track your usage. If you’re a writer you could even unplug your router. No, you don’t need to Google that word right now, make a note and move on.
The bottom line is, no matter what you use there needs to be a desire to get the work done. Sometimes you won’t have it, and if you really don’t want to work no amount of little hacks will turn that around. You have a deeper issue to address. Take a walk, find your focus, and ask yourself what’s really stopping you from getting started.
