Incremental Progress

It’s really easy to underestimate how much effect incremental progress will have on your life. Little things like learning a new vocabulary word every day tend to add up. It only takes a couple thousand words to be able to get just about any point across in another language. Learning a few per day will get you there in a year with minimal time investment or interruption in your day to day routine.

Lately a lot of the things I’ve been working on have been coming together. Now I’m seeing more and more that all of them were the results of tiny pushes every day. I used to set these massive goals for myself and I would never reach them. Now I just make a small commitment of time and I’m finding myself closer than ever to achieving things I didn’t think were possible, especially in the short amounts of time that I’ve put into them.

If you’re having problems, or consistently not reaching your goals, break them down into the tiny possible actions and commit to doing just that every day. Everyday, spend just 30 minutes writing, or learning a programming language, or running, or…

It’s a half hour, I know you have an extra half hour, just find it and use it rather than wasting it. You’ve only got about 30,000 days on this planet total so everyday you don’t work towards your goals is one less you’ll ever be able to give. Don’t waste them.

  1. 30,000 doesn’t seem like that many days, really brings to light how important how much time you invest into your self and others during what time you have. Great eye opener Brett.
